EcoTeams in Green Apple Award-winning project

EcoTeamers in Surrey are celebrating. They're part of a project that won gold at the Green Apple Awards, a campaign recognising environmental best practice.

The four winning EcoTeams in Redhill and Merstham were set up as part of Tap into Savings, an innovative programme which fits water saving equipment into homes as well as encouraging them to take further environmental actions, as part of a local community EcoTeam.

The first two EcoTeams celebrated together by bringing along tasty food made from leftovers and having a competition to make useful things made from re-used materials.

The winning items were jewellery made from train tickets and a reusable bag knitted from old supermarket shopping bags.

Sandra Skinner, who took part in the Redhill EcoTeam said:

"Because of the EcoTeam we’ve all been making changes as a family at home. My partner has even been doing some of the energy saving things at work."

The local partners, Raven Housing Trust, Sutton and East Surrey Water and Reigate and Banstead Borough Council entered Tap into Savings for the Green Apple Awards, run by the Green Organisation.

Tap into Savings is now running in Coventry and Braintree. By the end of the programme it is hoped that 370 people will have been part of an EcoTeam.
