How to get started
Congratulations on setting up your ecoteam. I am finding it an enriching experience to meet with my neighbours, talk together about how we can reduce our carbon footprint, encourage others (and myself) to do something about it. This is what I did. I wanted to set up a team for everyone in my street of 62 houses in the London suburbs. I first spoke to the guy who runs the Residents Group in my street and he was supportive. I publicised the first session and invited everyone along – by leaflet through letterboxes, by email (Residents Group mailing list) and by door knocking. At my ecoteams briefing session I heard from an ecoteam leader who had 200 people in her street and 13 people came along regularly to sessions so I was hoping for a response rate of 5-10%. I have now run 3 sessions and between 8 and 11 people have come along to each one which is wonderful. 6 of them have registered with my team on the ecoteams site and I have an email list of 13 households. A comment from a neighbour “ … am inspired to do lots of things on the list”. I would encourage you to get started and you will get results! Even if you are not a fan of door knocking it will be worth it. Good luck and all the best. Christine.
