Pedestrians

I am a supporter of sustainable societies but wonder what other Citizens think sustainability actually means. Most eco groups I come across seem to think sustainability means sustaining the present system. Here on the Isle of Wight I have fought quite a successful campaign to stop pavement parking which forces Pedestrians  to step into the road. This sort of action makes walking unpleasant and discourages Citizens from strolling aroung their own neighbourhood. The Islnd MP, the police, traffic wardens and councillors, county or parish all promoted the idea that pavement are a form of off road parking. In fact anyone that promotes any action that promotes walking as a form of transport is classed as anti car.Are there other Citizens that feel Pedestrians should be able to walk on our pavements freely and quietly without some driver mounting the pavement and expecting one to walk in the road?If there are too many cars for the car parks then cut down on car use not Pedestrian safety sounds more like an ecological solution to me than promoting pavement parking that blocks the footpath. Am I the only Citizen that thinks that way?
